Can you see me? Can you hear me? Book marketing in the age of YouTube
There are a million books, roughly speaking, published in North America every year. Many more worldwide. When an author launches a book into the world, she should be asking herself the question, “How can I get some attention for my book?” Because, unless you’re Stephen King or J. K. Rowling, attention has to be divided up, oh, a million ways.
There are many answers to that question, but one of them is to create a video talking up your book and telling the world a little about it. Buying and reading a book in a time-stressed era may feel like a real commitment, but watching a very brief video is just a break from the day. So with the right one, you can generate attention for your novel or non-fiction masterpiece.
With the publication of my recent book, Can You Hear Me? How to Connect with People in a Virtual World, and with the help of Millstream Productions, a video production company based in the UK, we created the video below to tease up the book.
Let me know what you think.
Very clever that you pop up at the end to speak to us. Beginning is engaging with an ideal amount of silliness. Bravo.
Thanks, David — coming from the master, that is praise indeed!
Great video. I’m working on a book and I really like this idea. It was short, fun, and compelling. Great idea and well done!
Thanks, Ann — one of the hardest things about “working on a book” these days is accepting that at the same time as you’re on that journey, you need to be embarking on a second journey, the marketing of the book, and it’s just as much of a job and a commitment as writing the book is.
