I agree with all of your points, but do you find the word “charisma” scares people? I find that too many people instantly conclude that they weren’t born with charisma so they tune out from discussions on the subject. At some level, doesn’t “charisma” simply mean “really interesting speaker?”
Hi, TJ — Thanks for your comment. I think certainly people assume that they’re not charismatic (and can’t be) but that’s just where the conversation begins. And to your second point, I saw Bill Gates hold forth one evening and I would not call him charismatic (precisely because he didn’t have a focused emotion) but he was a really interesting speaker, because he was so smart. So not all interesting speakers are charismatic, though I would say that all charismatic speakers are interesting.
