If someone is thinking of hiring you to speak at their next event, it’s almost guaranteed that they will look at your web site. It will help them determine what your message is, your typical audience and what your likely fee is. First impressions are important – people will assess you based on the quality of your site.
When assessing a speaker’s site, I look for three things:
What do you say about yourself?
I’m looking for clear content that explains your expertise and speaking topics. I’m also looking for videos of previous speeches, links to books you’ve written and a lively blog.
What do others say about you?
If a person has an interactive community, then this give me social proof that your ideas are popular and you can pull a crowd. I’m looking for lots of comments on your blog and followers on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. I also like to read testimonials from your previous speaking events.
How do you show up on search engine and traffic ranking sites?
Once I’ve looked at your web site, I’ll also see how you show up on search engines like Google and Bing. I also check out your Alexa ranking to get a sense of how much traffic you get. I can see how much buzz a speaker is generating, who is talking about you and how many sites you have linking in to you.
Here’s 10 of my favorite speaker web sites. I often use these for inspiration when I’m working on a new client site. It’s helpful to see what others are doing, what common themes emerge, and what speakers are doing to stand out from the crowd.

Good article and it was interesting to see how the speaker’s sites have evolved over the years (by following the links you provided). Not sure I agree with all the choices, but there are definitely some examples that can help speakers learn what they need when they design websites.
Keep up the good work !

Thanks for sharing the Ten Great Speaker Web Sites. Its really help me in getting great knowledge. I am impressed with visiting your website. keep it up you are doing a great job.
You have made great comments. I personally got to know a motivational speaker who did not have such an active online presence. But the reason I got to know him was simply that I was privileged to do so after I heard him speak. He has greatly impacted my life with his message. And through getting to know him, I have learned that his biggest successes came from his outstanding testimonials and referrals. I have learned through the speaking world that speakers share their knowledge onstage with different goals in mind. Some inform, some entertain, some persuade, some inspire and others motivate and transform. And it really when a message make a profound impact on you that you are inspired to take real action and when you can recall the message months, even years later, that you have met a truly transformational speaker. Apart from becoming a CPS there is not much that can inform an event organizer about a speaker’s success apart from going on referrals and testimonials and to check who this speaker’s previous clients were. If it were big recognized organizations, that should also be an indication of the speaker’s success and value he has to offer. To the best of my knowledge, I would say that the motivational speaker industry is a hugely competitive one. And so, looking at an Alexa ranking, I would consider that as an online marketing success rather than a speaker’s success message. In honor of the speaker who made a huge impact on my life – go visit his site here:
